Tammy Abraham May Walkaway If Subjected To Racist Abuse continuously

Harry Kane may lead England’s players off the pitch if they are subjected to racist abuse during their Euro 2020 qualifying double-header. Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham said England’s players will walk off the pitch if they are subjected to racist abuse during their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers. The Three Lions play the Czech Republic in Prague on Friday before a clash with Bulgaria on Monday in a partially-closed stadium, following racist behaviour from fans in qualifying matches against the Czech Republic and Kosovo in June. England manager Gareth Southgate had called a team meeting to discuss what action the players would take if there was a repeat of the abuse. European football’s governing body UEFA has a three-step protocol for racist abuse which can lead to the referee halting or abandoning a game, and Abraham says England’s players are prepared to take matters into their own hands if required. “Harry Kane said that if it happens and we’re not happy with it, we speak to the player and if he’s not happy, we all come off the pitch together,” Abraham told the BBC. “It’s a team thing. Don’t isolate one person, we’re a whole team. If it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. “Harry Kane did ask the question about instead of going through the three steps if we decide that we want to stop the game – no matter what the score is – if we’re not happy with it as a team we’ll decide whether or not to stay on the pitch.” England will be hoping to continue their fine start to qualifying having collected maximum points from their first four matches in Group A.

The Argentine superstar also named his best coach and the rival team that he considers to have been the strongest that he’s faced Lionel Messi has revealed that his headed goal in the 2009 Champions League final against Manchester United is the best of his career, while he also discussed his toughest opponent, greatest coach and more. The Barcelona captain secured what was his second European Cup win as he struck the decisive second goal against the Red Devils in Rome to help Barca to a 2-0 victory on the night. And when asked by RAC1 to name his favourite goal, he replied: “I said it many times, the one in Rome in the final against Manchester United.” Messi has not always had it all his own way against English opposition, however, with the Argentine and his Barca team-mates suffering at the hands of Liverpool in the now infamous clash at Anfield last season. The Reds, 3-0 down from the first leg, produced a remarkable comeback to book their place in the final of the Champions League, where they would go on to beat Tottenham in Madrid.

Senate proposes five-year jail term for school sexual offenders

The Senate on Wednesday revisited the sexual harassment bill passed by the 8th Senate. The 8th Senate had proposed a five-year sentence and N5m fine for lecturers convicted for sexually harassing male or female students. However, the passing of the bill into law had a setback because it was not given Presidential assent after its passage by the 8th Senate. The revisit of the bill was sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege on Wednesday. According to the bill, an educator will be “guilty of committing an offence of sexual harassment against a student if he/she has sexual intercourse with a student who is less than 18 years of age; has sexual intercourse with a student or demands sex from a student or a prospective student as a condition to study in an institution, or as a condition to the giving of a passing grade or the granting of honour and scholarships.” Omo -Agege in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, on Wednesday urged Nigerians to support the bill. He commended Aisha Buhari, Bisi Fayemi, the Academic Staff Union of Universities and those who supported the BBC for beaming the light on the hidden menace He said, “Concerned parents and youth should help energise support for proposals towards enacting an effective law against sexual harassment in workplaces and educational institutions

Manager Frank Lampard meet with Chelsea senior players on how to improve the club performance

Chelsea’s recent improvement in form can be partly attributed to manager Frank Lampard urging the side’s senior players to “step up”, rather than relying on the in-form youngsters, according to the Daily Mail. The Blues lost back-to-back matches against Valencia and Liverpool in September, both at Stamford Bridge. However, they bounced back to win their subsequent two Premier League outings and picked up a vital Champions League away win in Lille. Although Chelsea’s academy graduates have stolen the headlines, there have been notably contributions from the likes of Willian and Pedro more recently. And it is understood that Lampard and assistant Jody Morris took some of Chelsea’s senior players aside and told them to “stop leaving it to the youngsters to secure wins”. Since that crunch meeting, Willian, Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley have all scored, as the Blues have racked up four straight wins in all competitions, scoring 15 times

2020 Budget: Experts advocate timely, full release of capital allocation for health

A coalition of health advocacy groups has urged the National Assembly to ensure early passage and release of the 2020 budgetary allocation for capital expenditure to health. They also appealed to the lawmakers to discharge their constitutional responsibility of effective supervision of health sector budget implementation. While praising the Federal government for the early submission of the 2020 budget to the National Assembly, the coalition, however, voiced concern that the proposed capital expenditure cannot meet the health needs of Nigeria’s almost 200 million people. The Partnership for Advocacy on Child and Family Health (PACFaH@Scale), a coalition of 23 civil society organisations, said the allocation is inadequate to “equip, repair, revamp and make fit for purpose the country’s overburdened and failing health infrastructure.” The group called on the Federal Government to prioritise the full release and ensure efficient and effective utilisation of budgetary allocations to capital expenditure in the health sector. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday proposed a capital expenditure of N46 billion for the Ministry of Health in the 2020 appropriation bill he submitted to the National Assembly. Mr Buhari also proposed N44.5bn for the Basic Health Provision Fund (BHCPF) from an aggregate total expenditure of N10.33 trillion. The proposed budget for the health ministry is N4 billion short of the N51.1billion obtained in last year’s capital expenditure. Details of the budget proposal revealed that health came 11th as Works and Housing got the highest capital project allocation with N262 billion, almost six times that of health. A statement signed by the coalition’s spokesperson, Habib Sadauki, on Wednesday, said more worrisome is whether the funds will be released fully and timely as this has become the bane of the health sector over the years.

How policeman defiled me on several occasions – 9-year-old girl confess

A nine-year-old pupil (name withheld) on Wednesday narrated before an Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos how a 40-year-old policeman, Andy Eghobamien, lured her into his apartment and defiled her on numerous occasions. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the child made the revelation during the trial of Mr Eghobamien on a one-count charge of defilement contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The child, who described herself as a primary five pupil of one of the schools in Lagos State, was led in evidence by Inumidun Solarin, the state Prosecutor. She said the defendant, who was her neighbour, had defiled her on various occasions and that on the last occasion, he had lured her into his apartment under the pretext of giving her N200 to buy milk for him. The child told the court that Mr Eghobamien after defiling her had hid her under his bed when her elder sister was frantically searching for her. She said: “I know Brother Andy (the defendant). He is our neighbour, who lives at the back yard of our house. He is popularly known as ‘Officer’. “On that day, Brother Andy called me when I got back from school and sent me on an errand. He sent me to go and buy milk for him. Then he gave me N200. “I bought the milk and when I returned, he asked me to bring it inside his room. He then said I should drop the milk on the table and sit down. “And because my elder sister was shouting my name and looking for me, officer told me to pretend like nothing happened and that I should pass through the backyard gate.” The child said when she was found by her sister she lied and said she was at her friend’s house and that her sister had insisted that she took her to the friend’s house. “I started begging her not to beat me, and I told her that I was inside officer’s room. My sister beat me and reported to my father who was very angry. “When my mummy came back from the market where she sells Abacha (African salad), my sister reported me again. “This time my mummy threatened to kill me if I don’t tell her what happened. I became afraid and told her the truth. “Immediately my mummy called all her brothers and they came to our house the following morning and took us to Amukoko police station to report. It was after we made a report at the station that the police came and arrested Brother Andy,” she said. The witness said she was referred by authorities to the Mirabel Centre (a Sexual Assault Referral Centre) where the doctors revealed that she had been sexually abused on several occasions by the defendant. The prosecutor asked “How many times has he done such to you (sexual intercourse)?” “Many times. I can’t really count,” the child responded. While being cross-examined by Mr M.L. Ezomo, the Defence Counsel, the child said the reason why she did not report the abuse was because the policeman had threatened to kill her if she told anyone. She also added: “no other person touched me except Brother Andy.” NAN reports that according to the prosecution, the policeman allegedly defiled the nine-year-old child on June 6 at Amukoko area of Lagos. Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015 prescribes a life sentence for anyone found guilty of defilement. Justice Sybil Nwaka adjourned the case until October 30 for continuation of trial
